This trike is designed for families with a special needs member, the passenger, who like to get out and enjoy the freedom of cycling.
It allows the passenger to develop greater social networks and have greater inclusion in the community by participating in activities such as cycling with friends and family.
Designed for couples where one person is no longer able to make decisions for braking, steering or pedalling.
The ultimate in comfort and style for two riders to sit next to each other allowing them to talk and enjoy cycling together.
The trike has an electric motor in the front wheel to assist in the pedaling. Each seat unit has an independent drive train powering the rear wheel. The rear wheel axles are not joined.
Steering, front wheel braking and motor control is by the central pivoting tiller.
The trike is in 4 main parts for easy transportation.
This is a prototype for testing it's operation.
The final cost depends on whether you would like the optional hand crank or wheelchair rack.
Other customisations can be added to suit your needs.
I am open to ideas for improvement, whether you think it will or will not work.

The Pedal Assist Control Panel is used to set the level of assist from the electric motor.
There are 4 levels of assist and zero is off.
The headlight switch is not connected. The front and rear lights are always on if the battery is on.
The Pedal Assist Sensor detects the crank rotation and turns on the electric motor.
The throttle can be used to get the trike moving and when going up a hill.
The bottle battery is compact and stylish and is easy to remove.
All 3 wheels have hydraulic brakes.
The brakes can be locked on while the trike is parked.
The bar end shifter is used to shift the rear derailleur.
The 10 speed cassette gives a wide range of gears.
The 10 speed cassette is mounted on a Samagaga Easy Turn Gear to allow free-wheel coasting.
The rear derailleur shifts between the gears.
The 26" front wheel has the 250W hub motor.
The rear wheels are 20" with Samagaga hubs.
Steering is controlled by moving the lever back and forth.
Each seat has a bottle cage mounted to the handlebar.
The seat have mounts for an optional seat belt.
The seat belt could be useful for the passenger if they need to be supported.
The seats can be adjusted to suit the riders leg length.
The head rest can give support to the head for added comfort.
The head rest is fully adjustable.
Each seat has a rear view mirror.
The trike comes apart in 4 main pieces, plus the 2 rear wheels.
The front light is mounted on the fork steerer tube so it shines in the direction of the fork.
The light is on when the battery is turned on.
There is a rear light on each drive train assembly.
The lights are on when the battery is turned on.
The storage box is lockable and contains 2 USB charge ports and a 12V socket.
The storage box is ideal for storing small items on your ride. The rear basket is one option for using the rear rack.
Caster wheels are mounted on the rear of the drive train assemblies to make moving them easier and they can be stored in a upright position.
The optional hand crank allows the rider without the use of their legs to contribute towards moving the trike.
The height and reach are adjustable.
It is easy to remove the hand crank and replace the pedals for normal pedalling.
The optional wheelchair rack mounts on this tube.
The optional wheelchair rack allows the passenger to take their chair on the ride, allowing for stops along the way.
